Catherine Bouchier is an Australian Soprano and graduate of The Sydney Conservatorium of Music where she completed her Bachelor of Music and Diploma of Opera. During 2006/7 she was a finalist in numerous competitions including; the McDonalds Operatic Aria, Opera Foundation Australia’s; German Operatic Award, Italian Opera Award and National Opera Studio Award. She was granted the AIMS prize to study in Graz, Austria in 2007 after having made her professional operatic debut as First Bridesmaid in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro and the ensemble of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd and Verdi’s Otello both with Opera Australia.

In 2008 Catherine relocated to the UK to pursue her career and made her debut with Diva Opera in 2009 in the role of Mimi from La Boheme by Puccini appearing at the Vezere Festival and Azuriales Festival in France. She has also performed the role of Venus in Orphee aux Enfers by Offenbach and Ida in Strauss’ party scene from Die Fledermaus at the Royal Albert Hall. In 2010 she sang the role of Micaela in Carmen by Bizet throughout the UK, France, Switzerland and the Channel Islands, also for Diva Opera.

In July 2011 she sang the role of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello for Dorset Opera under the baton of Robin Stapleton.

In 2012 she returned to Dorset Opera to sing the role of Leonora in Il Trovatore by Verdi conducted by Phillip Thomas. She has performed extensively throughout Europe in concert for London Festival Opera from Puccini Festivals on the Amalfi Coast to Verdi highlights in Bari, Italy. In 2012 she performed the role of Violetta in La Traviata ‘Highlights’ by Verdi in concert for London Festival Opera at the Windsor Festival.

She has appeared as a soloist for the Huddersfield Philharmonic and in March 2013 performed the roles of Georgette in Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Nella in Gianni Schicchi both for Caledonia Opera in Aberdeen, Scotland. 

Catherine is now based in Sydney and in 2014 covered the role of Desdemona in Verdi’s Otello for Opera Australia. In March she sang the role of Euridice in Glucks ‘Orfeo ed Euridice’ as part of the Spectrum Now Festival at the Art Gallery of NSW. She reprised the role of Mimi in La Boheme at the Independent Theatre in June  and appeared as Soprano Soloist with  British master organist, David Briggs and St Mary's Cathedral Choir for a performance of Mahler's Resurrection Symphony in July.

In September 2015 she had the honour of performing for Richard Bonynge at his birthday celebrations at the RAC in Sydney. Accompanied by Bradley Gilchrist  she sang a selection of Puccini live to air on Fine Music FM as part of their Saturday afternoon series. Catherine appeared as a surprise guest at the famed annual event 'Diner en blanc' to a crowd of 4000 people on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. In January 2016 she performed the role of Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata for Opera Projects Sydney alongside Simon Kim and John Bolton Wood directed by Tama Matheson. Catherine has sung the role of Cio Cio San in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly also for Opera Projects Sydney directed by the acclaimed Butterfly; Cheryl Barker. In May of 2016 Catherine performed the title role of Suor Angelica by Puccini in a private performance at The University of Sydney.

During Opera Australia's 2016 winter season Catherine performed the role of Princess Nicoletta in the production of The Love for Three Oranges by Prokofiev directed by Matthew Barclay and conducted by Anthony Legge. In October she was the guest soprano at the Hydro Majestic Hotel's Blue Mountains Opera Festival performing alongside tenor Brad Cooper and baritone Damian Whiteley accompanied by pianist Grace Kim and the Caro String Quartet.

Catherine performs regularly in concert and has workshopped new operatic pieces for Opera Australia, these include; ‘Eucalyptus’ composed by Jonathan Mills, ‘When the rain stops falling’ composed by Quentin Grant and ‘Gold Diggers’ co written by Jonathan Biggins and Linda Nagle.

In 2018 she performed alongside renowned Flautist Jane Rutter in her Live at Lunch series at the Concourse in ‘Canticles of Ecstasy’ as well as a Christmas Opera Gala at the Hydro Majestic with Konzert Kollektiv’s Brad Cooper and Katherine Day on the piano.

Most recently she reprised the role of Suor Angelica by Puccini at the Cardinal Cerretti Chapel in Manly for Pacific Opera, for whom she is an Alumna.
